Week 4, 9/27 to 10/1
(This may change from day to day depending on how much we actually get done in class so check back often to make sure something wasn't changed at the last minute.)

Math

Monday - We reviewed mode and range with problem 1.3. Each group created a line plot to show that they understand mode and range.

HW - No HW, unless you are not done with 3, 4, 5, 7, 11, 12, 13, and 14 from the ACE.

Tuesday - Today we will correct the hw and begin investigation 1.4 to study the median. We are concentrating on averages as measures of center like the mode, median and then mean.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will finish Investigation 1.4.

HW - ACE #'s 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10

Thursday - I was absent today, I had a Learn and Serve America grant conference to go to, so the students worked on rounding with the substitute.

HW - None

Friday - We checked and turned in Wednesday's homework. That took the whole period.

HW - None

 

 

Science

Monday - We will research the current news surrounding the earthquake activity at Mt. Saint Helens. See my menu page for links.

HW - None

Tuesday - We will continue our research into the Mt. Saint Helens quakes.

HW - None

Wednesday - We will share any new information about the Mt. Saint Helens quakes.

Then we will review SCAN-n-RUN on Ch 12, section 1 of the science textbook and learn how to take notes by outlining.

HW - None

Thursday - Students read the science textbook and took notes by outlining.

HW - None

Friday - I quickly reviewed SCAN-n-RUN and how it fits into the the PAR strategies we are learning. I reminded students of the purpose of reading the textbook and taking notes on Ch 12, section 1.

We are reading about fresh water so that students can have some background knowledge when they learn more in-depth water quality later on. I have students take notes because they learn more when they have to think about what they read to write it down in their own words. Then when they create their websites, they will be less likely to plagiarize.

Then students continued to take notes by outlining.

Language Arts

Monday - We began with a Cispus evaluation. Then the class decided to work on their post Cispus projects by creating/updating the Cispus website.

Then we will continue reading The Giver. We got halfway through chapter 4.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will choose topics for the post-Cispus project. Then we will finish chapter 4 of The Giver.

HW - None

Wednesday - I will begin by reading another chapter or two of The Giver (maybe I'll read two chapters because Chapter 5 is quite short).

Then I will begin with a lesson on how to make a website; it starts by creating a storyboard!

HW - None

Thursday - Students got to hear Ch 6.

Groups will create their storyboards today.

HW - None

Friday - I read chapters 7 and 8 of The Giver. We couldn't stop at chapter 7!

HW - None

Social Studies

Monday - We went over with our language arts decision-making and reading of the Giver, so we didn't get to our plan for today. We will pick it up tomorrow.

HW - None

Tuesday - We will finish going over the Student Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

HW - Sign the back page of the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and have your child return it to school if you have not already done so.

Wednesday - We will begin our Elections 2004 project.

HW - Feel free to read through the links I found for this project.

Thursday - Students continued to work on their Cispus storyboards.

HW - None

Friday - Today was our library day.

HW - None

 

 

 

Student Tech Corps - 3rd period

Monday - We will pick up where we left off. Most likely Unit 1, lesson 2B.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we will finish lessons 3A and 3B.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today we will wrap up Unit 1.

HW - None

Thursday - Students worked on their Unit 1 performance assessment.

HW - None

Friday - We checked the answers to all the Unit 1 review tests, then we corrected the performance assessment.

HW - None
