Social Studies:

Tuesday - We are going to take a break from working on our Aztec, Maya, and Inca Webquest as we begin to conduct research for our Days of the Dead compare and contract essay. This is an individual assignment that everyone has to do.

Here is a copy of the outline I passed out today for students to use to organize their notes to write the essay.

Today we will be on assembly schedule as we take some time to listen to the Port Ludlow Singers!

HW - Just make sure your parents have read the Days of Dead explanation letter.

Thursday - We will continue to work on our Days of the Dead compare and contract essay.

Today is the first day our lesson study lesson will be done for observation. I will be gone today as I and the other teachers involved visit Mt View Elementary to observe the lesson we have been working on. I will be back tomorrow.

HW - Next Tuesday, Nov 1, we are planning to have our mock celebration. If you have not read the letter I sent home on Monday, please ask your child about it.

Future plans: This week we will focus our study on Days of the Dead because next week we will have our mock celebration.

Science:

Monday - Today we will review our Cooperative Team Jobs while we begin to learn and practice our Cooperative Team Reading Jobs.

We will do this as we start to conduct some research for our Volcanology Project. By this week we have all finished taking textbook notes for the volcano experts. We have all started using my Mt Rainier links to take notes for the Mt Rainier experts. And although the Mt St Helens experts should be done, they can also use the websites I have found for Mt St Helens to take more notes.

Also today I will start us working together, as a whole class, on an Earth Movement Project. I was going to have students work on this in their groups, but I have decided to switch this to a whole class project instead.

We are also waiting to start trapping fish along our stretch of the Chimacum Creek as soon as we get a large, clear jar.

HW - Every student got a Days of Dead explanation letter to share with their parents. Please read it and respond if you need to.

Wednesday - Today we will review our Cooperative Team Jobs while students continue to research volcanoes for their Volcanology Project.

Today is an early release day and our blocks are barely an hour long. Students will be dissmissed at 11:20am.

Also today Marilyn Sterbick, our counselor, will be back for Second Step during 5th period.

HW - There was no Second Step homework this week.

Friday - Today students will continue to work on their Volcanology Project and we will continue to plot earthquakes for our Earth Movement Project.

As students prepare to take their notes to write their part of the letter to the Governor, I handed out a sheet to help them organize their thoughts and their letter.

HW - The day of the dead essay was due today. I made today the due date so that students would not have to work on the essay this weekend. Several students turned in their completed Final draft, first draft edited by a peer, parent, or sibling, and the their outline page. Those who did not turn that in today are willing to turn it in on Monday and it won't be considered late if it is turned in on Monday.

Future plans: We will fulfill our Earth Science Grade Level Expectations (GLE's) by conducting our volcano project and our plate tectonics project.
