Social Studies:

Tuesday - Today we had a guest presenter. Audrey from North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC) returned to share with our students the scores we got from this year's B-IBI macroinvertebrate sampling (go to the following website and click on the B-IBI button on the left for more information).

We had two teams work with Audrey in October to send samples to a lab and we got our score back. It was quite low and students are working to understand. We appreciated Audrey's help in explaining to us how the lab got their results and what they mean to Chimacum Creek. See our Water Quality Project website for more information.

If you're wondering why this is here under Social Studies, well, today we were going to work on our PowerPoints after our guest was done. So we did mostly Science and after Audrey was done, kids got a chance to work on their PowerPoints (not a lot of time, but at least they got some).

HW - Return your water quality field trip permission slips if you have not already.

Wednesday - Today teams will continue to do their Aztec, Maya, and Inca WebQuest practice Powerpoint presentations as students also get time to finish their PowerPoints and notecards. Once all teams have done their practice presentation, and gotten feedback, then each team will do a final presentation for a grade.

3rd period - Project Alert with guest presenter, Kelly Matlock.

5th period - We will have a practice WASL reading test. The entire school is doing WASL practice tests today. The WASL practice took all of 5th and 6th periods so we didn't get to work on our PowerPoints.

HW - Return your water quality field trip permission slips if you have not already.

Friday - Same as Wednesday as teams finish their practice presentations and start their final presentations for a grade.

In both classes we have a few teams that will need to finish after Spring Break.

March is the Month of the Young Adolescent and today we will have our awards assembly to acknowledge that. We will also have a motivational assembly today as well.

HW - Spring Break next week! No homework.

Science:

Monday - We will continue to use our Water Quality notebooks as we continue to take notes from our science textbook in outline format using the SCAN-n-RUN reading strategy. I taught students how to use the SCAN-n-RUN strategy and how to take notes in outline format. We will continue to read Chapter 12 sections 1 and 3 of our Science Explorer Earth Science textbook to take the notes.

Today I will continue taking teams, one at a time, and training them on how to use their water quality testing kits and/or probes while the rest of the class works on their notes. I'm almost half way done.

HW - Today I gave students two Water Quality handouts explaining how we are collecting data at the creek and along the Hood Canal. There are two permission slips, one for our April Hood Canal field trip and one for our May youth summit field trip, attached that parents need to fill out and sign. I need those returned this week since we will be taking our Hood Canal field trips right after Spring Break.

Thursday - Since Social Studies has been interrupted by different events taking place during that class time, we will take time today and tomorrow to get teams through their presentations. If we have time today, we will work on the same thing as Monday. We will go down to the creek and start running the tests and collecting data the Monday after Spring Break.

HW - Return your water quality field trip permission slips if you have not already.

Email me if you have any questions or concerns.
