6th grade Science:

Monday - Today students will get to work on their Mt Saint Helens Scavenger Hunt. If they do not finish in class, the rest will be their homework.

HW - Finish the Mt Saint Helens Scavenger Hunt if you did not finish it in class.

Tuesday - Today we will correct our Mt Saint Helens Scavenger Hunt.

Then we will have a Mt Saint Helens assessment.

We will end our class period by going over the lab safety guidelines as we prepare for our first official lab!

HW - Same as Monday.

Wednesday - Today we will let students apply for two water quality jobs. Our Water Quality Project doesn't start until the Spring but one job, the Benthic Macroinvertebrate Sampling job, needs to start now because after October 15 the data will no longer be useful for our work with the North Olympic Salmon Coalition (NOSC). We will also need to select our film crew for the Spring so they can start documenting what the benthic group will be doing next week. (Yes, next week!) As students apply for these jobs, the class will vote on who will actually get to do them.

HW - Same as Monday.

Thursday - Today we should be ready to start our Energy, Machines, and Motion kit lesson 2 (we're skipping lesson 1) with a lab where students will get to make their own batteries. Our lab safety guidelines will be very important as students will be using copper sulfate solution, which is not something to be played around with.

HW - There is an Energy, Machines, and Motion website for students but I'm not assigning anything from there just yet.

Friday - Today students will share what they know about batteries and what they want to learn. Then students will finish yesterday's lab by answering questions in the book. Finally, students will read about batteries in their book, pgs 15 to 19.

I will have a sub today as I attend a Learn and Serve Grant meeting.

HW - None

7th grade Science:

Monday - Today we will complete an activity that looks at different physical scales of observation used by scientists.

HW - None

Tuesday - Today we are going to take a look at energy transfers and how to diagram those. I will use a mechanical energy interaction as an example. Students learned how to make their own energy transfer diagrams.

I had each table come up with their own mechanical energy interactions and then share them with the rest of the class so we could see different examples.

HW - None

Wednesday - Today students observed three different energy transfers, conduction, convection and radiation. Students noticed that the energy being transferred in those three examples was heat or thermal energy. Thermal energy interactions will be very important in our study of the Earth.

HW - None

Thursday - Today we will look at a few clips explaining conduction, raditation and convection as we continue our study of those three thermal energy interactions. We will look at pages 115 to 117 in our textbook in preparation for tomorrow's assignment.

HW - None

Friday - Students will work on a WebQuest called The Heat is On! in our continued study of conduction, raditation and convection. This WebQuest is part review, part new learning.

I will have a sub today as I attend a Learn and Serve Grant meeting.

HW - None

8th grade Computers:

Monday - Students will continue to work with Flash. This week I would like to see students also start to create podcasts or vodcasts in class for our Blog. We may even begin to add sound to our Flash animation movies.

HW - None

Tuesday - Students will continue to work with Flash and add articles and comments to our Class Blog.

HW - None

Wednesday - Students will continue to work with Flash and add articles and comments to our Class Blog.

HW - None

Thursday - Students will continue to work with Flash and add articles and comments to our Class Blog.

HW - None

Friday - Students will continue to work with Flash and add articles and comments to our Class Blog.

I have a sub today so they're on their own.

HW - None
